An attractive and at the same time tragic antique gold mourning brooch.

Rich black enamel on 15ct yellow gold with a central front glazed panel under which is a lock of plaited blonde hair.

The words in fancy gothic script In Memory Of surrounding the glazed panel.

The back is inscribed with the name John Cairl, died Aug 1837.

We don't know how old John was when he died but his bright blonde locks suggest not too old.

He died just months after Queen Victoria taking the throne in June 1837.

Unmarked tests as 15ct gold pin is an old C type clasp made of base metal.

This is in lovely condition with vibrant colours and nice enamelling, the glazing is free from chips or cracks.

Approx measurements:
1.25" width
Weighs approx 4 grams
