An attractive and unusual, 19th century, Scottish folk art snuff box in the form of a shoe.

This is a table top snuff box of a good size, a hand crafted piece.

Hand carved from wood which has been painted black with a carved slide action lid, it has a slim rectangular mother of pearl inset on the front.

The base has inlaid studding as does the front of the shoe, there is an inlaid letter A at the front in fancy script, possibly the initial of someone who owned it.

We have a collection of these snuff boxes all from the same home, a little group of family heirlooms.

The top of the shoe holds the snuff and has a shallow recess.

This box is surely a labour if love and lots of time and dedication has gone into it, a beautiful representation of 19th century folk art.

Good used condition overall, some very light surface wear, general signs of use and ageing, small chip to the mother of pearl, see photos.
