A gorgeous antique Regency era mourning ring.
This grand and regal piece has the band of dreams, rich 18ct yellow gold, the band has a curved wavy edge with intricate engraving and details in light relief.
The chunky shaped shoulders lead to the large rectangular front setting which displays a central smooth polished black onyx surrounded by a halo of creamy white split pearls with a baroque look.
The reverse is engraved Will m Holditch, Ob 23 May 1817 aet:
There is no age for William, this has been left out, for reasons unknown only to those involved in his life, death and the rings creation.
A truly beautiful piece, c1810s, it is Unmarked, tests as 18ct gold, the onyx panel is a replacement, there was likely a hairwork panel previously.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, some age commensurate surface wear, onyx is a replacement and sits very slightly skew.
