An exceptionally beautiful antique, Chinese enamelled peking glass snuff bottle.

Hand carved from a block of glass which has been shaped and smoothed to a bottle form.

The bottle has been dipped and hand enamelled, it has a bright canton yellow ground with fine enamelled detailing.

The sides and the neck of the bottle have a fine scrolling pattern in a Cornflower blue, one side of the bottle features a praying mantis among blossoms and the other side has a cricket among similar blossoms.

Both creatures have meanings within Chinese symbolism, the cricket has been attributed to good luck and longevity, the mantis has long been admired for its graceful poise, it has links with calmness of the mind, meditation and grace.

The bottle is not perfectly symmetrical and this is normal for a hand carved piece of this era.

The lid has a metal collar and is set with a coral coloured agate cabochon, it has a metal spoon, there is some fabric wrapped around the inner, maybe to fit the lid flush.

To the base it is marked in iron red with a four character mark for imperial Yung Cheng (Yongzheng 1723–35)

A very beautiful bottle.

Good used condition overall, some residual marks in the bottle, lid has a little Wobble but still strong, tiny chip to the inner rim of the neck, some wear to the inner of the lid / spoon, light surface wear commensurate with age.

Approx measurements:
3" height,
1.75" width
0.75" width.
