A rare early antique coffin or casket plate.

This is a late Georgian era piece, large in size, definitely a plate that would have been used for a more wealthy ceremony.

It has a mourning image, a lady mourning at a graveside beside an urn with a weeping willow tree, the lady also sits by a harp, the bottom of the plate is decorated with a wreath and torches.

This type of image was often depicted in Georgian mourning pieces including jewellery pieces.

It is made from silvered pressed and moulded tin.

The back has had a later string glued to the back in order to hang it.

Previously part of a larger private collection, these larger and more elaborate plates are scarcely found with many destroyed or remaining in private collections.

Condition:
Good used condition overall, wear commensurate with age, some very light rusting to corner areas, string added to the reverse.

Approx measurements:
10.75" length
7.75" width
