A rare antique meerschaum and Amber bent pipe by Louis Blumfeld (Adolph Frankau and Co)

A very well respected maker and importer of meerschaum and later Briar pipes.

This meerschaum is a very unusual find as it is an 1881 hallmark so fairly early in Blumfeld's management of the company, Meerschaums were still being imported at this point and hallmarked in London or Birmingham by Blumfeld.

The pipes fitted case has the JB Vinche trademark inside, it is possible the case is a replacement but it fits very well so could this have been imported from Vinche, its possible.

The silver collar has the BBB trademark, lion passantfor sterling silver, Birmingham 1881.

Interestingly it is also marked Carlton Sharmans patent, this patent was not common until the early 20th century so this would indicate this is a very early version of the patent.

Very heavy meerschaum bowl and short shank with a rich patina and a lovely orange Amber stem.

Very good used condition overall, some minor wear and nibbles to the Amber mouthpiece, light patina to the silver, previously smoked with charring in the bowl, good strong case.

Approx measurements: (out of case)
5.25" total length
2.25" bowl height
4" total height with stem
