A fantastic large Victorian era Ram horn and silver plated table snuff mull.

Designed to be pride of place these snuff mulls were an elaborate and statement piece of tobacciana, snuff would be placed in the top well if the mull for folk to take a pinch of the finest.

Often used as presentation pieces, this Snuff mull also has a Brewery connection, inscribed on the top of the lid: John Smith, The Brewery, Tadcaster, Xmas 1889.

1889 was a significant year for the world renowned brewery with them taking on their first scientifically trained head brewer, Percy Clinch, they were a leading name and producing around 150, 000 barrels of beer annually at this point.

Making this Snuff mull a historically interesting piece as well as a very attractive antique and piece of tobacciana.

Made in England from a large natural Rams horn, it has silver plated fittings including the lid, end cap and an attractive lion mask singular paw foot for standing.

The inner of the lid is marked for John Batt, manufacturer Park Works, Sheffield.
