A beautiful Victorian era snuff box.
I have a definite love for the snuff box and the thousands of beautiful variations they were created in, they featured heavily as a part of social etiquette in the 18th and 19th century.
Tobacco was seen as a luxury item but even the poorest of gentlemen would offer up his snuff to an acquaintance or friend as a greeting and gesture of goodwill.
This Snuff box is English made from papier mache lacquered black with a very fine silver overlay border or scrolls and stars.
In the centre there is a transfer printed scene of a young deer in the forest.
It is a rectangular shape.
Condition:
Good used condition overall with age related wear, the transfer printed image has losses and rubbing, there is crazing in the lacquer and a few tiny chips.
Approx measurements:
3.5" width
2" length
1" height
