You can't help but be charmed by this beautiful, Victorian 18ct yellow gold Mizpah ring.
A stunning piece with a wide face and gothic lettering across the front spelling out the word Mizpah.
Mizpah is an old Biblical Hebrew term meaning watchtower and the meaning behind Mizpah in jewellery is a sentimental one: The Lord watch between me and thee when we are absent from each other
These jewellery pieces were popular in the Victorian era and often gifted as a symbol of protection and love between two people.
With this symbolism in mind this would make for a beautiful wedding ring or gift for someone special.
Marks and era:
Fully hallmarked but band is thinned cutting off some hallmarks, 18ct gold, Birmingham assay office, possibly 1870.
Condition:
Good condition overall, some light surface wear commensurate with age, band has significant thinning and this has rubbed the marks, band has a rough edge
UK/AU ring size J½
US ring size 5
EU ring size 49.32
Total weight 3.48 grams
Ring face 7.7mm length and Band 1.4mm width
