A superb antique 19th century portrait miniature ring.
A tiny portrait, all hand enamelled in vibrant colours of a lady in full profile in a garden setting, the portrait has been enamelled on mother of pearl and this can be seen through the back of the ring.
It is large, pretty and vibrant, a definite statement piece.
The enamelled panel has been set with a surrounding halo of cut steel 'gems', cut steel was a popular alternative to diamonds at a time and the craftsmanship that went into creating these pieces was phenomenal.
The cut steel is fused to a brass frame mount which is then mounted on the large 9ct gold setting and band.
It is stamped to the band 9ct, and tests as 9ct.
A charming antique ring with stacks of character, it has a very grand yet romantic feel to it, blending the soft enamelled scene with the large size and rustic cut steel to perfection.
Late 19th century.
Condition:
Fair used condition overall, some age commensurate surface wear and signs of use, some loss of enamel to the portrait picture, see photos.
