An interesting antique Georgian Lava cameo mourning brooch.
Oval shaped with a number of small oval cameos set into an 18ct gold setting, they span with a cartwheel effect to a central glazed panel with a plait of hair.
There are numerous grand tour style design faces / busts, there are two cameos with symbols, one appears to be made from carnelian.
The hairwork panel has a closed back in rich yellow gold, unmarked tests as 18ct.
The brooch has a C type clasp that holds well and the pin is a base metal protruding out slightly from the brooch.
Late 18th / early 19th century, Georgian era.
Condition:
Good condition overall with age commensurate wear, some nibbles to some of the gold cameo facets, there are a few chips to some of the cameos noticeable on close inspection, evidence of soft solder to some of the 'spokes' nice and strong though, no weakness to it.
A very nice unusual piece for the collection.
Approx measurements:
1.5" width
1.25" length
Weighs approx 6.98 grams
