A stunning antique Victorian mourning pendant brooch, a beautifully made piece that is full of sentiment.
It is an oval shaped brooch in 9ct yellow gold with a central glazed panel with a hairwork section holding a stylised lock of blonde hair with gold thread on a dark woven hairwork backing.
The dark black onyx overlay is decorated with a beautiful applied gold chain link design which goes all around the outer edge.
Likely to commemorate the memory of two different people with the two hairwork types, the chain motif symbolising staying together and the dark onyx symbolising death.
It has an old C type clasp, the pin is a base metal and an antique jump ring to be worn as a pendant if desired.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, tiny chip to the onyx, some surface wear commensurate with age, a little dust under the glazed panel.
Unmarked tests as 9ct gold.
