A stunning antique, Victorian era 9ct yellow gold Maltese Cross locket or poison locket.
This attractive pendant is designed as a Maltese Cross with a chased and engraved design of leaves and flora.
The front features a bloodstone slab with a circular cut which decorates the hinged door to the locket compartment.
Often referred to as poison lockets and commonly found in rings these concealed type lockets were said to hold a secret stash of poison or sometimes highly secret messages.
Could also be used for a keepsake or photograph.
Perfect as a pendant or even an elaborate watch fob.
Unmarked tests as 9ct gold, Victorian era, c1890s.
Condition:
Good used condition overall with signs of age and use, some very light surface scratches including to the stone, the edges of the cross exhibit some white metal lines from solder or joining, this is not easily noticed unless closely inspecting.
