A stunning antique Victorian mourning ring.

If you are looking for a mourning ring that is filled with sentiment and symbolism then this is the one for you.

A rich 15ct yellow gold engraved band with black enamel highlights, the centre has an oval face set with a carved black agate, carved to resemble a forget me not flower.

The agate is surrounded by a halo of tiny seed pearls and to the reverse there is a glazed locket compartment containing a lock of light brown woven hair.

For the Victorians there were symbolisms in jewellery that quietly represented different aspects and translated to different meanings.

The forget me not flower has more obvious connotations to not forget, not forgetting the loved one that was lost, black enamel represented death and seed pearls or pearls represented tears.

The lock of hair means that you are carrying the loved one with you.

This beautiful ring comes in a pretty antique ring box.

It is fully hallmarked with the sought after Chester assay mark, 1881, 15ct gold.

Condition:
Good used condition overall, some age commensurate surface wear, a small chip to one petal of the agate, some enamel loss.
