A truly beautiful and unusual pair of antique, late Victorian era drop earrings.

Made with chunky carved black onyx drops with an unusual shape, almost a squared acorn shape or anvils, they are set to the front with a seed pearl and a gold bar detailing.

The drops are suspended from black enamel and 15ct yellow gold tops in a fleur-de-lis design also set to the bottom with a seed pearl.

They are mourning earrings, the black onyx typically representing death and seed pearls which represent tears, the fleur-de-lis or lily flower has many theories as to its symbolism ranging from having connections in high power or royalty to life, light and perfection.

They are finished in 15ct yellow gold with gold lever back hook fasteners, unmarked but tested.

English make, c1880's

For small drops they are fairly heavy due to the chunky onyx drops.

Condition:
Very good used condition overall with one minor nick to one of the onyx drops and a small nick to the black enamel.

Approx measurements:
0.5" width
0.5" depth
1.25" total length
9.91 grams total weight
