Antique Ruby and Diamond eye brooch, Boxed, 9ct gold

A gorgeous antique late Edwardian era eye brooch.

The eye was a popular symbol in antique jewellery and saw a resurgence in the Edwardian era, believed to ward off evil and act as a protective symbol, they were inspired by Mediterranean and Egyptian themed jewels from earlier decades.

This brooch is a bar style brooch with a double sided bar featuring the gem set eye to the centre, the eye has a single cultured pearl to the centre with rose cut diamonds and calibre cut rubies adorning the outer borders.

The rubies have a lovely pinky red hue and they work so well with the sparkly rose cut diamonds, exhibits great gem quality and you get a lot of ruby in this piece for the size.

The gems are set into sterling silver and the body of the brooch along with the fastenings is 9ct yellow gold.

The brooch comes boxed in the original antique jewellery box so would make a wonderful gift!

This is a versatile piece and could be used as a brooch, scarf pin or a tie pin, minimalist in design it adds a great finishing touch.

It has a trombone style clasp and pin fastener.

Condition:
Good used condition overall, light surface wear commensurate with age, old repair near where the eye meets the bar, soft solder visible on the reverse, pin with slight bend but still fastens tight
