A beautiful antique, late Victorian era mourning ring.

Rich 15ct yellow gold band with black enamel shoulders and front.

There are two carved forget me not flowers set with creamy pearls, the centre of each flower is adorned with an old rough cut diamond chip.

The band is very chunky towards the front, it has a good weight to it.

Black enamel in mourning jewellery almost always represents death and pearls usually represent tears, the wearer was showing their sadness and love for a lost one and the forget me not flowers add another layer of sentiment to this beautiful piece.

Forget me not flowers were used in mourning jewellery but also in Victorian sentimental jewellery and love token pieces, they symbolise someone or a love or connection that will never be forgotten.

There are two flowers here, the ring could represent a flower for the deceased and a flower for the wearer or possibly two lost loved ones accompanied by one another in passing.

The ring is fully hallmarked for 15ct gold, Chester Assay office, 1897.

It's nice to find an old Chester assay office hallmark as they are highly sought after and have long been closed.

Condition:
Good used condition overall with evidence of a previous resize which is visible, small nicks to the band near the resize, some light surface wear to the gold band, tiny scratches on the enamel but without much loss, slight off round shape to the band.
