Such a wonderful interesting little piece is this antique Art Nouveau era brooch.

It depicts the brooch of Tara in a simple, elegant and typically Art Nouveau form.

Made from 9ct rose gold the brooch features a pear cut blue paste stone set to the top of piece.

The Tara brooch was an Irish Celtic brooch dating to the medieval times late 7th or early 8th century, an example of the fine craftsmanship that emerged within Ireland's fine goldsmiths of the medieval era.

They were likely reserved for Kings and nobles and the original brooch of Tara was discovered in the mid 19th century.

It got its name the "Tara" brooch from the commercial jeweller George Waterhouse who recreated different styles of Tara brooch for the booming Celtic revival market at the end of the 19th century into the early 20th century.

This brooch is stamped with a makers mark G W Bc so possibly a stamp of Waterhouses works.
