Antique Victorian whitby jet buckle bracelet, gold buckle
Antique Victorian whitby jet buckle bracelet, gold buckle
A real stunner! That's the only way to describe this unusual antique, Victorian era, whitby jet and gold buckle bracelet / bangle
Smooth highly polished whitby jet panels strung with a carved band to the top and bottom of the panels to produce a belt design.
It has circular gold faux buckle holes and a large decorative engraved 9ct gold buckle to the centre with stylised ivy leaves.
One of the sentiments ivy represents was the everlasting and buckles represented being bound by love so this was possibly a mourning piece that represented everlasting, unforgotten love for a lost one.
It has a gold tone metal and rubber hook and loop fastener which is a new replacement and the bracelet has been restrung on black elastic.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, some small nibbles and scratches to the jet panels, two deeper scratches to the reverse and a roughed mark.
Unmarked, buckle tests at a 9 carat gold, jet has been tested and confirmed as jet.
Approx measurements:
5.5" length of the panels,
7" total length unstetched
1.5" width at the widest point
