An outstanding rare, antique, Victorian era cameo brooch.
What makes this cameo special is the subject matter and it is always desirable to find unusual or fine carvings on these beautifully crafted pieces of jewellery.
This particular cameo features a maiden either teasing or chastising cupid, I have not seen another of its kind and it is certainly an interesting piece.
Carved from bullmouth shell it is mounted in a large decorative 9ct gold frame with bead and wirework detailing, the gold with tones from rose to yellow.
It has an old c type clasp fastener and a small integral loop for a safety chain, it does not currently have a safety chain.
It is marked on the reverse 9c with the makers mark HB & S for Herbert Bushell and Son.
Condition:
Very good used condition overall, light surface wear, commensurate with age, some light surface marks to the reverse
Approx measurements:
2.10" length
1.75" width
