An attractive vintage 9ct gold and onyx signet ring.
Rubover setting with tapering shoulders, the front is set with a smooth, oval onyx cabochon, slightly rounded rectangle in shape.
It has an open back.
It is a nice chunky piece with a good weight very well made, the inside of the band is fully hallmarked for 9ct gold, Birmingham assay, 1979.
Signet rings derive their name from the Latin for signature, they were popular throughout history in men's jewellery and were often carved with family crests or signatures and used as stamps or intaglios, later they remained popular as a fashion choice and they have remained a popular piece of mens jewellery since their creation.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, some light surface wear, commensurate with age, minor nibbles to the onyx edges.
Approx weight: 4.73 g.
