A beautiful antique, late Victorian mourning bangle.
It is made from silver and enamelled black, set with seed pearl to the front with an engraved grape vine design.
Possibly Austro Hungarian it is marked with an N, tests as sterling silver.
It has a push hinge clasp and a silver plated safety chain, it is an oval shaped bangle.
Grapevines were a popular symbol in Victorian jewellery and mourning jewellery features them heavily, they indicate the Christian faith and life after death, the rebirth into heaven, amongst other things.
