A very rare antique, Georgian, 18th century bone skull and jesus pendant.
This is a very scarce piece the two sided pendant depicting a skull on one side and a depiction of jesus on the other.
Almost certainly a Memento Mori piece the subject is open to interpretation though it is likely to have some relation to life and death, the two passages of human life, good and evil and balance.
The depiction of Jesus may also mean this pendant is likely to have some Christian connections.
It is hand carved from bovine bone with a steel pendant top, there is a further s loop below so this could be used to suspend something further or attach to a further component.
This pendant came to us from a prestigious private collection.
English make, 18th century.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, some wear commensurate with age.
Approx measurements:
1.5" height
0.85" length
0.5" width
