A beautiful antique Victorian scarab beetle drop pendant.
It is made from 15ct bloomed gold and houses a real iridescent green scarab beetle set into the beaded gold setting.
The pendant has an articulated drop which gives it a little movement and shimmer.
It has a closed back setting and is unmarked, tests as 15ct gold, late Victorian era.
The Victorian's developed a great fascination with the natural world and all things exotic which saw a love of Egyptian revival jewellery surge into popularity and this heavily influenced both jewellery and fashion, this fascination continued into the early 20th century with many beautiful insect and animal themed jewels being produced in the period.
Egyptian revival style remains a popular choice even today and has never really gone out of style!
It has a later gold plated jump ring attached for hanging to your favourite necklace.
Condition:
Good used condition overall with signs of use and wear, some light surface wear commensurate with age.
