This beautiful antique 15ct gold Mizpah brooch is packed with sentiment and is really something special!

Crafted in rich buttery 15ct yellow gold, more commonly found in 9ct, this brooch has an intense amount of detailing to it.

Designed as a pair of love hearts joined with a tendril of ivy, the hearts representing two people's hearts, two loved ones, the ivy representing the evergreen or eternal bond.

Both hearts are engraved, to the centre there is a pretty gold bow holding the two together, one heart has applied letters spelling Mizpah, then the words engraved:

"The Lord watch between me and thee when we are absent one from another"

Mizpah jewellery rose to popularity in the Victorian era, the meaning is always one of love and sentiment.

The word Mizpah has Hebrew origins and translates to watchtower, what has this to do with love? It has a religious connection meaning may God watch over you, this is said to be connected to the book of Genesis and the story of Laban and Jacob.

It has an old C type clasp and pin fastener along with a safety chain for added security.
