A very nicely carved bullmouth shell cameo depicting a Bacchante housed in a 15ct yellow gold frame.
A popular subject matter, it is always a pleasure to find fine cameos, a Bacchante is a priestess or follower of Bacchus or Dionysus was the god of wine and represented amongst other things, fertility, festivities and theatre.
It has an old c type clasp and pin fastener and a smooth 15ct yellow gold frame, it can be worn as a brooch or a pendant and is a food sized brooch.
This brooch is all about the fine carving and what a mesmerising carving she is!
Marks and era:
Unmarked, Victorian era, tests as 15ct, c1890s
Condition:
Good used condition overall, light surface wear, commensurate with age.
Approx measurements:
