This magnificent antique Victorian era crescent moon and Star brooch is really something special.
Finely crafted in the Etruscan revival manner in rich 15ct gold with cannetille detailing and beading around the border.
It features a crescent moon to the centre with a diamond and sapphire set star nestling into the moon.
Stars have a rich history in Georgian and Victorian jewellery and they have continued in popularity since, the Victorians wore them as a symbol of guidance, protection and good luck.
Crescent moons were a popular motif in Victorian jewellery, they are attributed to a number of meanings from feminine strength to changes or new beginnings / chapters.
It is thought that a moon and Star together symbolises love and loving one to the moon and back so this piece is likely to have romantic connotations and was probably gifted as a love token.
This brooch can be worn in many ways and is a stunning, versatile piece, it would look great worn on a lapel or even affixed across your favourite gold chain for a celestial twist.
Lots of symbolism and meaning wrapped up into this pretty piece.
It has an old C type clasp and pin fastener.
It comes in an antique brooch box so would make a wonderful gift.
