A very stylish Edwardian, silver and paste crescent brooch.
A beautiful curved moon set with pretty sparkling foiled paste stones and reconstituted turquoise.
Paste jewellery despite being used as a low cost substitute for diamond popular from the 18th to 20th century is now highly sought after in its own right.
It has a very long history with a form of paste for jewellery dating all the way back to the Roman empire.
In the 18th century it experienced a surge and was made from heavy Flint glass, specially crafted to imitate the brilliance and fire of diamonds.
Crescent moons were a popular motif in Victorian and later Edwardian jewellery, they are attributed to a number of meanings from feminine strength to changes or new chapters.
It has an old C type clasp and pin fastener.
