An alluring and unusual antique fly brooch!

This brooch features a fly sitting upon a pair of crossed knitting needles, the fly is adorned with creamy seed pearls and has a single round cut sapphire to the body.

An old wives tale says that it is bad luck not to cross your needles when not in use so the crossed needles likely symbolise good luck.

Flies have been known to represent humility and also were long worn as a talisman to ward off evil.

The brooch is crafted in rich 15ct gold with an old c type clasp and pin fastener, the pin is 9ct gold.

Marks and era:
Late Victorian era, c1890s, electronically tests as 15ct gold, 9ct gold pin.

Condition:
Good used condition overall, light surface wear commensurate with age, sapphire vibrant, with some minor space in the setting.
