A very sweet tiny, antique silver and paste crescent brooch.

A beautiful curved moon set with pretty sparkling paste stones, resembling diamond with plenty of sparkle and shine.

Paste jewellery despite being used as a low cost substitute for diamond on 18th to 20th century is now highly sought after in its own right.

It has a very long history with a form of paste dating all the way back to the Roman empire.

In the 18th century it experienced a surge and was made from heavy Flint glass, specially crafted to imitate the brilliance and fire of diamonds.

Crescent moons were a popular motif in Victorian and later Edwardian jewellery, they are attributed to a number of meanings from feminine strength to changes or new chapters.

This is a European piece, c1910s, stamped with a pictorial mark and 925, possibly Austrian of Dutch.

It has an old C type clasp and pin fastener.

Good used condition overall, signs of use and wear commensurate with age, light surface wear and patina
