If you are a lover of celestial jewellery then you won't be able to resist this exceptional early Victorian, silver and 9ct gold paste crescent brooch.

A beautiful chunky curved moon set with pretty sparkling paste stones, all expertly hand cut and shaped to resemble old cut diamonds with plenty of twinkle.

The brooch is made from 9ct rose gold with a silver front.

Paste jewellery despite being used as a low cost substitute for diamond in the 18th to 20th century is now highly sought after in its own right.

It has a very long history with a form of paste dating all the way back to the Roman empire.

In the 18th century it experienced a surge and was made from heavy Flint glass, specially crafted to imitate the brilliance and fire of diamonds.

Crescent moons were a popular motif in Victorian and later Edwardian jewellery, they are attributed to a number of meanings from feminine strength to changes or new chapters.

It has an old C type clasp and pin fastener.
