A gorgeous, scarce antique, late Georgian / early Victorian Aide Memoire by Nathaniel Mills.
It has an unusual and attractive tartan style engraving to the front and back covers, inside it is lined with a dark green moire silk.
There are two small leather loops which house a pencil and keep the aide memoire closed.
Internally there are leaves that once held the pages, these pages would have been used to write on and were probably made from bone, a small notepad could be added to use to make notes.
It comes with a small silver propelling pencil but this is non working and missing the top.
The aide memoire has a shield shaped cartouche front and back, the front engraved with the initials EAR in fancy script, the reverse is not engraved.
It is fully hallmarked for sterling silver, Birmingham assay, 1838,bust of King George, maker Nathaniel Mills
A nice early piece, rich in design.
