A beautiful antique Victorian mourning locket.
It is a large chunky locket made from vulcanite with an applied spray of flowers made from bog oak.
It opens to reveal two compartments for storing photographs.
Both vulcanite and bog oak were popular materials for use in mourning jewellery due to the dark aesthetic that they produce.
The locket contains two vintage photographs currently though these can easily be swapped out for something of your own.
Unmarked, Late Victorian era c1880s.
A fine and unusual piece of mourning jewellery.
Please note that the locket does not snap closed as it does not have this type of lock shut fastener.
Condition:
Good used condition overall with signs of age and use, no glazed cover to one side, small nibbles ti the bog oak flowers and slight surface wear.
Approx measurements:
2.3" length including bale
1.5" width
1" Depth
