There are two sides to every Piggy! At least on this antique silver lucky pig pendant there are.
I have to admit I really love the character of this piece!
It is a chunky little sterling silver piggy with an integral silver jump ring bale making it the perfect pendant for a fine silver chain or for use as a large bracelet charm.
This well detailed little piggy has a different expression on each side, one side he looks quite mild mannered and even sweet and the other side a much more menacing and devious look!
Pigs have been considered a symbol of luck and prosperity for many years in many cultures, there are a barrage of folklore tales to be heard about the lucky pig and the Victorians weren't a bunch to miss out on a bit of symbolism.
This guy is perfectly detailed, made from sterling silver with a rich aged patina, it is a chunky little piece, hollow with a small air hole to one side from casting.
It's the dual expressions that really bowl me over on this piece, you could wear him facing a different way according to current mood.
Marks and era:
English make, late 19th century, Victorian era, electronically tests as sterling silver.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, wear and patina commensurate with age.
Approx measurements:
0.6" length
1.12" width
