An unusual antique, early Victorian era mourning brooch.
This brooch has a large rectangular white opaline glass cabochon set with a small glazed oval panel housing a small piece of plaited brown hair.
The hairwork is surrounded by a decorative scrolling gold plated frame.
The rectangular frame is made from 9ct yellow gold and has four decorative support mounts, one is a replacement and is in a slightly different style to the other three.
It has a base metal pin and an c type clasp fastener which protrudes slightly from the brooch.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, one replacement mount, light surface wear commensurate with age.
Unmarked tests as 9ct gold to the frame, English, c1860s
