An exceptional Victorian mourning locket in onyx and sterling silver.

Heavy and a nice size this mourning locket is made from shiny black onyx with fancy lettering in silver to the front.

Lettering reads IMO which is short for 'In Memory Of', the lightly patinated silver contrasts beautifully with the rich black onyx.

It has a large silver bale to the top, the reverse of the locket has a glazed panel for a lock of hair, no hair there though.

Surrounding the glazed panel is a slim silver bezel frame which has been finely engraved:
‘My Dear Mother
who died Nov 12 1880 aged 60yrs’. Also ‘B.A.R

A beautiful and sentimental piece of Victorian mourning jewellery.

Unmarked tests as sterling silver, it does not come on a chain, would look great on a bookchain or velvet ribbon.

Condition:
Good used condition overall, some wear to the onyx near where the silver letters have been applied but not new, a small area of wear to the back of the onyx near the bezel frame.

Approx measurements:
2.5" height with bale
1.5" width
22.70 grams weight
