The most beautiful Victorian sterling silver card case.
A lovely heavy piece but what really makes this stand out from the crowd is the incredible engraving.
Fully representative of the aesthetic era it features an elaborate design front and back.
The reverse is engraved with a bird in flight, over a pond or lake area with bamboo trees, the front is even more detailed featuring a song bird within a blossom tree, bamboo trees and a stork to the lower half wading through water.
The whole engraving is tied together with geometric patterns, there is a shallow engraving of the name Mabel in the lower corner adjacent to the stork.
It is a large size and could also be used as a cigarette case if desired however there are no straps.
Fully hallmarked for sterling silver, Birmingham Assay office, 1880, hallmarked on both sides.
The inner of the case has at some point in time been covered with paper, the paper displaying antique advertisements, this can be removed though and is worn away in places.
Approx measurements:
4" length
2.75" width
0.25" depth
Approx weight 106 grams.
Condition:
Very good used condition overall, light surface wear commensurate with age, opens and closes firmly and securely.
